WASHINGTON – The Catholic University women's soccer team notched a 3-1 victory over Susquehanna in Landmark Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Selinsgrove, Pa. on Senior Day.
The Cardinals improve to 8-6 on the season and 2-1 in the Landmark, while the Crusaders fall to 1-10-1 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Kate Wiley evened things up for the Crusaders when she drilled a shot past Lexi Halperin (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) from 20 yards out in the 28th minute.
Catholic immediately turned on the attack and responded with a goal of their own less than 30 seconds later. Alyssa Fiore (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) sent a cross into the box for Masson who sent it home for a 2-1 lead at 28:13 on the clock. The Cardinals took a 2-1 into halftime behind a 9-to-3 advantage in shots, and 2-to-0 lead in corner kicks.
Midway through the second half, Annie Langley (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) scored her first goal of the season to put Catholic up 3-1. Susquehanna was unable to find the back of the net in the second half, as Halperin turned away all three Crusader shots on goal.
The Cardinals dominated the offensive categories, owning a 21-to-7 advantage in shots, and creating five corner kick opportunities while only allowing one for Susquehanna.
The Cardinals return to action on Thursday, Oct. 17 as the welcome Washington Adventist for a non-conference tilt scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
