WASHINGTON – The Catholic University women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 decision over Moravian for their first Landmark Conference win of the season on Saturday, Oct. 5 in the Nation's Capital.
Kate Masson (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) wasted no time putting the Cardinal's on the board, as she found the back of the net just 1:12 into the contest. Kiersten Gault (Lumberton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) dribbled down the right flank and crossed the ball into the 6 yard box as Masson was charging into Greyhound territory. She one-timed the shot past Genevieve Chaleff to put her squad up 1-0 on her fourth goal of the season.
Moravian kept fighting as they held a 6-to-3 advantage in shots for the half. Lexi Halperin (River Vale, N.J./Pascack) turned away four first-half shots to keep the Greyhounds scoreless. Corners were even at one apiece heading into intermission.
As the second half got underway, Catholic continued its offensive attack ripping off seven shots and limiting Moravian to just five.
Halperin picked up a total of six saves in the win, and completed her fourth shutout of the season.
The Cardinals (6-6) return to action when they hit the road and travel to Rutgers-Camden for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at7:00 p.m.
