WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's soccer program has finalized its 2014 schedule and is "excited" to announce the 18-game slate, consisting of season opening tournament in New York and eight home contests.
"I believe that this is very challenging schedule," said CUA Head Women's Soccer Coach J.P. Sousa. "We are coming off a solid year in 2013 with a young team, and our early season non-conference games will prepare us for a run during the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament."
CUA kicks off the season at Farmingdale State for the Rams Classic in Farmingdale, N.Y., on Aug. 29-30 (Friday and Saturday). The Cards will take on Western Connecticut on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and the tournament host Farmingdale State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
"We open in New York against teams that have consistently played in the NCAA tournament over the past several years for our first challenge of the season," said Sousa.
The first home contest of the season takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 7:00 p.m. against Hood.
Sousa and his squad then hit the road for the next four contests, beginning with Cabrini on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 12:00 p.m., St. Mary's (Md.) with a 4:00 p.m. start time on Wednesday, Sept. 10, Frostburg State on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m., and finally a Wednesday, Sept. 17 matchup at Stevenson at 7:00 p.m.
"I am happy to continue our regional contests against old CAC foes St. Mary's, Salisbury, and Mary Washington," said Sousa.
Prior to kicking off the Landmark Conference portion of the season, Catholic returns home to welcome Salisbury and Mary Washington, Saturday, Sept. 20 at 3:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m., respectively.
"Our conference schedule gets tougher with the addition of Elizabethtown this fall, but our team will be ready," said Sousa.
Elizabethtown will be the Cardinal's first conference opponent this year at the CUA Soccer Field on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1:00 p.m. CUA will have two non-conference contests in between Landmark action both on a Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., Rutgers-Camden on Oct. 7 and Washington Adventist on Oct. 28.
CUA wraps up the regular season on Sat. Nov. 1 at home at 3:30 p.m. against Juniata.
