Sousa Announces Women’s Soccer 2017 Schedule

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's soccer head coach JP Sousa announced the 2017 schedule for the Cardinals on Friday afternoon. Catholic begins its quest for another Landmark Championship and a return to the NCAA Tournament on September 1.

The Cards start the year at Virginia Wesleyan for a two-game tournament that includes Christopher Newport, before hosting their own the next weekend with the annual DC Classic on September 9 and 10. Landmark Conference play starts for Catholic on Saturday, September 23.

"The Landmark Conference is a tough league every year.  It's important that we are prepared for what will no doubt be another difficult path to a championship," said Sousa. "I am excited to start the new season against Virginia Wesleyan and Christopher Newport, along with the other strong regional opponents we have lined up in September."

Catholic's nonconference slate features a three-game homestand after the VWU Tournament with DC Classic games against Guilford and Randolph-Macon in addition to hosting Stevenson on Wednesday, September 13.

Home non-league games include St. Mary's (Md.) (9/27), Lynchburg (10/3) and McDaniel (10/18). The Cardinals will also travel to Salisbury (9/16).

"October will also see us host nonconference games against Lynchburg and McDaniel, two teams who were nationally ranked in 2016," stated Sousa. "My hope is that these games will give us that final push to host conference playoff games and return to the NCAA tournament."

Catholic's first Landmark contest comes at home against Susquehanna. The Cards will also host Goucher (10/11), Moravian (10/14) and Drew (10/21) as part of a four-game home stretch.

The Cardinals face Juniata (9/30), Elizabethtown (10/7) and Scranton (10/28) on the road.

The Landmark playoffs begin on Wednesday, November 7 with the semifinal round before the title game on Saturday, November 4.
