WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team secured its fourth shutout of the year with a 1-0 victory over Stevenson University on Wednesday afternoon.
After making her first career start, sophomore Bella Bertoncini stepped up big. The Barrington, R.I., native recorded her first career goal and the Cardinals' lone goal of the event in the 65th minute.
As the ball bounced around the six-yard box following a corner kick from freshman Madison Shelly, Bertoncini took her chance to rip it with one touch and place it in the center of the net.
Junior goalkeeper Christina Peyroux also rose to the challenge and made seven saves for Catholic, to record her third win of the year.
Throughout the 90-minute match, the Cardinals outshot the Mustangs 18-11. Bertoncini and freshman Krista Boretti led the flock with three shots a piece.
Next up, Catholic travels to Salisbury University on Saturday, September 16, to take on the Seagulls at 1 p.m.
