DANVILLE, Va. - Catholic used a second-half surge as the Cardinals scored three goals in a span of ten minutes to defeat Averett, 5-1, Friday afternoon to win their third game in row.

The Cardinals built a 2-0 lead early in the game from goals by junior Lia DeGisi (Medford, N.J./Merion Academy) and sophomore Stephanie Hare.

Averett (2-7-2) was able to cut the deficit to 2-1 right before the half as the Cougars Nycole O'Garro scored in the 42nd minute.

Catholic (7-2) was able to put the game away midway through he second half as freshmen Deanna Keil (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), Laura Kaye (Annandale, Va./Bishop Ireton), and junior Brianne Palmieri (Melville, N.Y./St. Anthony's), all tallied eight minutes apart to raise the CUA lead to 5-1.

Senior keeper Rachel Glennon (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) made three saves.

Catholic outshot Averett 39-6 and held a 6-4 corner kick advantage.
