GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. --- Catholic fell, 4-0, to Gwynedd-Mercy in the quarterfinal round of the 2003 ECAC Mid-Atlantic Women's Soccer Tournament on Wednesday.
The fifth-seeded Cardinals had several key scoring chances in the first half but could capitalize on the wet and rainy field. But in the 27th minute, the fourth-seeded Griffins struck first as Dana Landis put home a rebound off a corner kick past CUA keeper Meghan Baroody (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams).
Landis would help set up the next goal for Gwynedd-Mercy (13-3-5) in the 52nd minute to put the Cardinals in a 2-0 hole. She would cap the scoring later in the half with her second on the day, on a breakaway, in the 72nd minute.
Baroody would finish with four saves while freshman Kate Milazzo (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) came in to play the final 11 minutes. Griffin keeper Maria Neville was credited with one save.
Gwynedd-Mercy outshot the Cardinals just 11-3, as both teams played under saturated field conditions.
Catholic ends the season at 14-5-1 under head coach Scott Racek. It was the first post-season appearance for the CUA Women's Soccer Program.
