FREDERICKSBURG, VA. --- Catholic clinched a CAC Tournament first-round home game with its 2-1 win over Mary Washington Tuesday afternoon, giving the Eagles their first conference loss of the season.

Senior Meghan Baroody (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) made a season-high 12 saves in the victory.

The Cardinals will finish as the No.3 seed in this weekend's upcoming tournament.

Senior Brianne Palmieri (Melville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scored her fifth on the season, an unassisted goal in the 28th minute, to give CUA (14-4, 4-3 CAC) a 1-0 lead.

Junior Aubrey Maki (Ravena, N.Y./Ravena) made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute with her ninth goal of the year with an assist from freshman Erin Crowley (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland).

But Mary Washington (7-5-5, 3-1-3 CAC) kept within striking distance with a goal late in the game in the 85th minute before the Cardinals clamped down on their 14th win of the season.

Catholic will host a first-round CAC Tournament game this Sunday, November 2nd against Goucher at 2 p.m.
