WASHINGTON --- Catholic used two-second half goals and held off a late charge by Washington College as the Cardinals defeated the Shorewomen, 2-1, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
After a silent first half, junior Jenny Aspinwall quickly put CUA (2-1) on the board with her second goal of the season, an unassisted tally, in the 49th minute.
Junior Aubrey Maki made it 2-0 with her second goal of the season with an assist from junior Stephanie Hare in the 73rd minute, seemingly to ice the game but the Shorewomen (2-2) answered with a late goal in the 88th minute. Unable to get the equalizer, Catholic held on to win its second game of the season.
Senior Meghan Baroody recorded only two saves, but her counterpart, WC keeper Jennifer Chapman, was kept busy all day, facing 22 CUA shots.
The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow with a non-league game against Neumann College at 4:30 p.m.
