Cardinals Place Four on All-CAC Squad
Peters named to the first team
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's soccer team had four student-athletes named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference team after earning the second seed in the CAC tournament and a bid to the East Coast Athletic Conference tourney. The Cardinals had one player on the first team and three on the second, they finished the season 11-8-1.
Suzie Peters (Nanuet, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) was the lone Cardinal on the first team after leading the squad in goals with eight and added two assists for 18 points. The sophomore forward scored three game winners after starting 19 games for the Cards.
Two midfielders received second team nods after controlling the midfield allowing CUA to outshoot opponents 352-153. Sophomore Elyse Bellardini (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) had two goals and three assists for the year notching seven points in 20 games started. Diana Napolitano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Immaculate Heart) joined her with 20 starts and tallied one goal and three stats for five points. Both student-athletes played an important role in CUA's offensive and defensive schemes by disrupting opponents and contributing goals.
Helene Nicoletti was one of three freshmen on the All-CAC team. The Haddonfield, N.J., native moved right into the lineup starting all 20 games in her rookie year. She scored one goal for the season but made a major impact on defense not allowing the opposition to get off shots and score.
CUA will lose four seniors but return a majority of the starting lineup in 2007.
