FDU-Florham Eliminates CUA from ECAC
Cardinals finish the season 11-8-1
MADISON, N.J. - Catholic University women's soccer ended their season with a 2-1 loss to the Fairleigh Dickinson- Florham Devils (13-6-2) Thursday afternoon in the ECAC quarterfinals. The Cardinals finish the season 11-8-1 after earning the sixth seed in the post-season tournament.
CUA scored early on but was unable to generate additional goals during the remainder of the contest. In the sixth minute Elyse Bellardini (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) found Suzie Peters (Nanuet, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) on a corner kick to make it 1-0. However, this would be the Cardinal's finals score of the season as they couldn't find the back of the net on eight shots on goal.
At 27:41 Kate Daly scored an unassisted goal to tie it up. The Devils were able to net one more goal in the first half with Amanda Buyes tally at 35:22 making it 2-1 at the break.
In the second half neither team could find the back of the net and despite the CUA defense stepping it up, the Cardinals fell 2-1 after ninety minutes of play.
CUA outshot the Devils 16-9 and took four corner kicks to Florham's three but it was not enough. Keeper Kim Stengle (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) had five saves in her final game while Melissa Braun had eight for the Devils.
The Cardinals will lose four senior to graduation but return a solid nucleus of starters for next season.
