Women's Soccer Beats Hartwick

Cardinals split at Oneonta Mayor's Cup

ONEONTA, N.Y. (Sept. 10, 2006) - The Catholic University women's soccer team (2-2) emphatically beat Hartwick College (1-3), 2-0, Sunday afternoon at the Oneonta Mayor's Cup.  The Cardinals bounced back from a tough loss to #8 Oneonta on Saturday to split at the Mayor's Cup.

Diana Spadaro (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) scored the first goal for the Cardinals with an unassisted goal at 16:34.  With Hartwick attempting to clear it, the ball deflected off of her into the goal to make it 1-0.

A majority of the game was played with CUA's one-goal lead as each team fought in the middle of the field with few shots even taken.  Finally in the 85th minute, Elyse Bellardini (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) played the ball up from midfield to Suzie Peters (Nanuet, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) who found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

That would be the final as the horn sounded improving the Cardinals to 2-2 on the season.  CUA hedl the advantage in shots 8-5 and corner kick 3-2.

The team will host its home opener this Wednesday against Frostburg State.  The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
