CardsClip SeaGulls in Double Overtime
Kelly Anderson scored her second goal of the season to win the game
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Playing on an auxiliary field, the CUA women's soccer team (4-2, 1-0 CAC) started off slow against the Salisbury Sea Gulls (1-3-1, 0-1 CAC) Saturday evening. Salisbury controlled the first twenty minutes but was unable to find the back of the net. Catholic University picked it up later in the game but was also without a goal despite numerous corner kicks.
The teams battled through regulation and a first overtime sending the game into a double overtime sudden victory situation. After many chances, in the 106th minute Kelly Anderson (Dover, Del./St. Thomas More) broke the deadlock with the winning score. Anderson took a close shot on the right side which hit the post. Luckily, the rebound came back to her and on this attempt she was right on target.
CUA had 15 shots to the Sea Gulls' nine and also held the advantage in corner kicks taking 11 while Salisbury was awarded seven. Kim Stengle (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) had only three saves but all were important in the tight match.
The Cards will take on another CAC-foe on Tuesday at home with a
game against St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m. on DuFour Field.
