CUA Rolls Over Goucher
Cardinals outshoot Gophers 32-1
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University women's soccer squad (6-3, 3-0 CAC) dominated the Goucher Gophers (1-6, 0-3) Wednesday evening at DuFour Field. Despite a close 1-0 score, the Cardinals controlled every aspect of the game for all ninety minutes.
Off of the opening kickoff, the Cardinals took over on offense including thirteen shots in the first half. At 22:33, leading scorer Suzie Peters (Nanuet, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) headed the ball into the goal from the middle of a crowded box. Sara Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Our Lady of Peace) notched the assist after floating in a perfect serve off of the corner kick.
The second half was much like the first with CUA shooting continuously but unable to get the ball into the net. Goucher keeper Stephanie Ricketts played an important role for the Gophers as she recorded sixteen saves only allowing in one of the Cardinals seventeen shots on goal and making the final 1-0.
The Cardinals had 32 shots to Goucher's one and seven corner kicks while the Gophers were awarded none. Goucher's one shot of the afternoon was a strong kick up the middle but CUA keeper Kim Stengle (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) used her body to stop it.
CUA will travel to North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday, kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
