Four Cards score in 4-1 rout
WASHINGTON- The Catholic University women's soccer squad (5-1) defeated the Marymount Saints 4-1 Tuesday evening in Virginia. Four different players scored as the Cards continued their solid season improving to 5-1. CUA had a good day after moving up in the regional rankings to number eight that afternoon.
Freshman Kelly Donnelly (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was the first to strike with an unassisted shot in the ninth minute. Marymount's Dana Zalowski scored first for the Saints but after that is was all CUA as the Cards took over for the rest of the game. Diana Napolitano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Immaculate Heart) connected for CUA on a penalty kick at 40:31, just a minute later Sara Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Our Lady of Peace) scored off of a pass from Diana Spadaro (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus). This made the score 3-1 at the break.
Suzie Peters (Nanuet, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) scored at 68:23 in the second off of an unassisted shot. This moved the score to 4-1 which would prove to be the final.
CUA's offense was all over the field outshooting Marymount 26-8. The Cards also had six corner kicks to the Saints' two. Tere Rossi had three saves for CUA along with the win while Lauren Harris was credited with the loss and 10 saves.
The women have a game against DeSales on Sunday at the DuFour Center upper fields. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
