Cardinals Top Bulldogs 4-1
Peters has two goals and an assist for the day
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's soccer team continued on undefeated after beating the DeSales University Bulldogs, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the DuFour Center Upper Fields. Suzie Peters (Nanuet, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) led the Cards with two goals and an assist who haven't lost since the first game of the season.
Elyse Bellardini (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) started it out for CUA dribbling straight through the DeSales' defense and firing on keeper Katie Halpin to make the score 1-0. In the 17th minute, Peters connected on her first goal of the afternoon after playing a quick ball into the net from Kelly Donnelly (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City). The Bulldogs pulled within one putting a shot over Tere Rossi's (Annandale, Va./Falls Church) head making the score 2-1 at the break.
CUA padded its lead to start the second half as the hot foot of Peters once again got by Halpin off of a pass from Diana Spadaro (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus). In the 60th minute, the duo revered roles as Peters tapped a ball to Spadaro who bent it perfectly into the top right corner of the net to make the score and the eventual final 4-1.
The Cardinal offense dominated the Bulldogs outshooting them 19-5 and taking eight corner kicks to DeSales' two. Rossi, who saw little action due to the stifling Cardinal defense, had three saves on the day and recorded the win. Halpin took the loss with five saves.
CUA will travel to Frostburg State on Wednesday for a contest against the Bobcats beginning at 6 p.m.
