Late Goal Gives Women's Soccer Tie at Drew
October 18, 2008
MADISON, N.J.--Diana Spadaro's (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) conversion a penalty kick in the 87th minute to tie the game, then stellar defense held the game to record a tie against Drew University, Saturday.
The Cardinals started stronger culminating in a pair of early chances. Elyse Bellardini (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) fired high of the target in the tenth minute and Spadaro had her left footed shot saved by Mularz in the 15th minute.
In the 31st minute, Spadaro, who gave the Rangers fits all game, crossed from deep in the left corner all the way across to Caitlin Brett (Mercerville, N.J./Nottingham) at the back post. Brett headed well back across goal and past Mularz, but Miranowic was there to head away to safety.
CUA outshot the hosts 13-5, but recording only Spadaro's goal the Cardinals were held to a tie. Spadaro led the attack with four shots, while six different Cardinals recorded at least one shot.
Goalkeeper, Tere Rossi (Annandale, Va./Falls Church) recorded only one save, on five shots, but allowed one goal in the 27th minute from Emily Weida.
CUA will return to action on Monday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m. as the Cardinals will take on Trinity (D.C.) on the road.
