Women's Soccer Falls in Overtime
October 8, 2008
Washington, D.C.-- Outshot 16-6, the Cardinals needed great defense from Landmark Player of the Week, Tere Rossi (Annandale, Va./Falls Church), and even with six saves in the game, the Cardinals fell short in overtime as York College scored just four minutes into the extra session.
The six shots that were taken by the Cardinals were quality shots, with five of the six on goal, but a penalty kick by Diana Spadaro (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) was the only one that found the back of the net.
Jill Stanley started the scoring for York College in the 55th minute, but that goal was answered by Spadaro's mark only four minutes later, knotting the game at one. In the overtime session Kaitlyn Harney's shot rang off the crossbar then fell to the foot of Ali Jones who made no mistake and drove the ball to the far post.
CUA will return to action Sunday as the Cardinals will welcome Scranton to the CUA Upper Field, with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m.
