CUA Ties Ramapo in Double OT
WASHINGTON- The CUA women's soccer team faced off against non-conference opponent Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon. The intense match-up ended in a 4-4 tie after two overtime periods, and the Cardinals' record now stands at 1-0-1.
In the first half, the Cardinals posted the game's first goal. Sophomore forward Kelly Donnelly (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) found the back of the net off of a pass from teammate Chelsea King (Prospect, Ky./Presentation). CUA's Elyse Bellardini (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) then chipped in an unassisted goal at the 28 minute mark, putting the Cards up 2-0.
Ramapo then scored a pair of goals to tie up the game, but the Cardinals answered back with two goals of their own in the second half. Diana Spadaro (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus), assisted by Erin Saia (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) recorded the CUA's third goal of the afternoon, while Donnelly added her second goal just minutes later.
The Cards could not hold on to their lead, however, and the game was forced into double overtime. Overall, the team tallied 23 shot attempts and 20 corner kick opportunities. Goaltender Tere Rossi (Annandale, Va./Falls Church) also garnered three saves in the contest. She was knocked out of the game late, and was replaced by Amanda Cowan who gave a solid performance for the Cards. The women' soccer team will travel to the Manhattanville for a game against Trinity (Conn.) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
