Trinity Takes Catholic at Valiant Classic
PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Catholic University of America's women's soccer team (1-1-1) fell short in a Saturday afternoon match against Trinity College. Battling the elements as well as the Bantams, Catholic was held scoreless in the opening game of the Manhattanville Valiant Classic.
Just minutes after the skies opened and the remnants of Tropical Storm Hanna descended upon the field, Trinity broke a scoreless tie at 54:15. The Bantams tapped a loose ball inside the 18-yard box by Catholic goalkeeper Amanda Cowan to gain a 1-0 advantage.
Trinity came right back just over two minutes later, blasting a shot into the top right-hand corner of the net from about 15 yards out to increase the advantage to 2-0.
The Bantams continued to keep the ball on the Catholic end and eventually found the net in the 78th minute. Trinity out-shot Catholic by a 10-6 margin after Catholic held a slight 6-4 edge in the opening 45 minutes.
Catholic returns to action tomorrow in day two of the 14th annual Valiant Classic. Game time is set for 2:30.
