Women's Soccer Picks up 1-0 Win Over McDaniel
WASHINGTON -- Off the foot of Kelly Donnelly, The Catholic University of America's women's soccer team (1-0) defeated McDaniel College, 1-0, on Wednesday at the CUA Soccer Fields.
CUA dominated possession for much of the game and allowed McDaniel (0-2) only four shots. Donnelly took six shots for the Cardinals, with five of them on target, including the game winner (pictured below).
The Green Terror's Leanne Hollinger wrangled 15 shots on the day, but in the 52nd minute Donnelly's power proved too much. Donnelly took possession of a loose ball in front of the six-yard box and blasted the ball past the keeper.
Tere Rossi made only three saves for CUA, but a strong defensive effort helped secure the shutout. The Cardinals dominated in both corner kicks (10-2) and shots (22-4).
The Cardinals return to action this weekend as the team travels to Virginia Wesleyan for the Orthopedic Associates of Virginia Classic. CUA will first face Christopher-Newport at 1 p.m. on Saturday before taking on the hosts, Virginia Wesleyan, on Sunday at 4 p.m.
CUA's Kelly Donnelly finds the back of the net against McDaniel for her first, and team's first goal of the 2009 season.
