Women's Soccer Earns Draw Against Drew, 1-1
WASHINGTON-- After falling behind in the first half, Helene Nicoletti evened the game for CUA (13-2-1, 3-1-1 LC) and the Cardinals grabbed a draw against Drew University (6-7-2, 3-1-1 LC) on Sunday.
In a game that didn't see much offense end up on the scoreboard, it was strong defense and great defensive play that dominated the contest. CUA managed 18 shots in the contest, but only nine found their way on goal, one hitting the net.
Caitlin Brett and Courtney Orgill led the offense with three shots each but neither found the target. The Cardinals lone goal of the contest came off the head of Nicoletti in the 62nd minute when she redirected a corner kick deep into the back of the net. Kelly Donnelly grabbed the assist on the tally.
CUA had several more chances in the contest, with the best coming late in the second half when Diana Spadaro hit the post and grabbed her own rebound and put the return feed back on the net, but the ref blew the whistle and called CUA for offsides.
The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. as Michigan Ave. rival Trinity (D.C.) will travel several hundred feet down the street to take on CUA.
