Women's Soccer Blasts Trinity (D.C.), 7-0
WASHINGTON-- Playing Michigan Avenue rival Trinity (D.C.) the CUA women's soccer team improved to 14-2-1 on the season with a 7-0 win.
Kelly Donnelly led the CUA attack with two goals and two assists, as CUA marked 24 shots on goal in the contest. Donnely's goal in the 2nd minute of play began a string of four goals scored in the opening 16 minutes for the Cardinals.
Cristina Martinez had several brilliant saves for Trinity, stopping 17 CUA blasts in the game.
Cardinal goal scorers in the first half were Donnelly (2nd and 16th), Ellen Jansen (11th), Caroline Burke (15th). Caitlin Brett, along with Donnelly and Burke each grabbed an assist in the first half as well.
In the second half, Brett found the back of the net in the 55th minute off a Donnelly feed. Lauren Cadott added her first career tally in the 81st minute off a Mary McGann pass.
Another Cardinal scoring her first career goal was senior keeper Tere Rossi who started the game in goal, then moved to forward late in the contest. She found the back of the net on a brilliant header in the 85th minute when McGann served a perfect pass across the goal.
CUA dominated in all aspects of play, holding the visitors to zero shots while putting 24 shots on goal. CUA also grabbed a 10-0 advantage in corners.
The Cardinals will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 12:30 p.m., as Moravian will travel to Washington, D.C., to wrap up the Landmark Conference regular season.
