Women's Soccer Drops Hood, 4-0
WASHINGTON--Helene Nicoletti opened the scoring for CUA (11-1) in the fifth minute enroute to a 4-0 win over Hood College (7-3-1) on Tuesday.
Chelsea King, who assisted on Nicoletti's goal, followed the Cardinals opening goal with one of her own in the eighth minute, as Diana Spadaro took a second attempt cross after a corner and found King cutting to the far post. Courtney Orgill added to her season total, now at 11, with a goal in the 19th minute.
CUA, which is currently ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, quieted down offensively for much of the rest of the half and took a 3-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Cardinals unleashed an offensive attack that included 13 shots. Hood recorded six second-half saves between its two keepers with numerous other shots clanging off the post or missing just wide. Finally, Diana Spadaro found the back of the net in the 78th minute when Caitlin Conroy found her cutting to the net. Spadaro used a simple touch over the diving keeper to grab her sixth goal and 16th point of the season.
CUA outshot its opponents 19-3, including a 13-1 margin in the second half. Dominating nearly all of the possession, the Cardinals kept the ball in their offensive half for much of the game, giving the hosts a 6-1 advantage in corners.
CUA returns to action on Oct. 10 as Juniata will travel to Washington, D.C., to take on the Cardinals. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
