WASHINGTON – The Cardinals won their second straight game on Sunday at Cardinal Stadium against the Avenging Angels of Meredith College 4-1. CUA's Lauren Cadott, Caitlin Brett, Caroline Burke, and Kaylre Greaves scored one each and Meredith's Eliza Evans scored one. This was the last match of the 2011 DC Classic.
CUA outshot the Angels 20-6 and was awarded two corner kicks while Meredith was awarded zero.
The Angels starting goalkeeper Kelsey Hopper sent back 12 shots while CUA's goalkeeper Christina Cassidy saved two. Sara McCaw replaced Hopper for the Angels with 11 minutes left and blocked one shot. CUA's Cassisdy was replaced by Yasmeen Ajdari and saved one.
The Cardinals started off strong with three goal attempts in the first 21 minutes of the match. CUA's first goal was made by Burk at the 24:39 mark making the score 1-0. CUA continued to dominate with two shots and one corner kick but was unable to score. CUA's second goal came at the 43:26 mark with a great pass from Kate Masson to Greaves who fired the ball to the back of the net making the score 2-0 at the end of the first half.
The Angels started off the second half with a goal only two minutes into the match with Evans scoring with an assist by Kimberly Williams making the score 2-1.
CUA dominated the rest of the half outshooting the Angels 11-1. Brett scored at the 57:32 mark and Codott (assisted by Masson) scored the final goal of the day making it 4-1.
Following the tournament, the following players were named to the All-Tournament Team. Greaves, Masson and Brett from CUA, Meredith's Sarah Varnell, Allie Kahler and Carrie Talbert, Bridgewater's Meghan Groos, Elizabeth Stump and Abby Dehoff and FDU-Madison's Claire Donohue, Claudia Falconieri and Michelle Hickey.
The Cardinals will return to action on Wednesday, September 14 when they host Gettysburg at home. Match is set to start at 4:30p.m
