WASHINGTON- Catholic University women's soccer goalkeeper Christina Cassidy was named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Cassidy had an amazing weekend totaling nine saves over two matches to help the Cardinals go 2-0 in the DC Classic.
CUA's first match up of the weekend was against the Devils of FDU-Florham on Friday night. Cassidy sent back seven shots in 105 minutes of play leading the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory in overtime.
CUA went on to play the Avenging Angels from Meredith College on Sunday afternoon. Cassidy saved two in 81 minutes of play leading the Cardinals to a 4-1 win over the Angels.
For the season, Cassidy has allowed only five goals in four games totaling ten saves with a .667 save percentage leading the Cardinals to a winning record of 3-1.
Cassidy and the rest of the Cardinals will return to action on September 14 when they host Gettysburg. The match is scheduled to get underway at 4:30p.m.
