WASHINGTON – The Landmark Conference announced its
All-Conference Teams for women’s soccer on Tuesday and CUA
had four student-athletes selected. Seniors Caitlin Brett,
Erin Saia and Christina Cassidy received first team distinction,
while junior Courtney Orgill was named to the second team.
Brett was CUA’s third leading scorer this season with five
goals and 13 points. The senior captain handed out three
assists in a win over Hood, netted the game-winning goal at Goucher
and scored once in CUA’s semifinal victory vs. Susquehanna in
the Landmark Conference Tournament.
Brett finishes her CUA career with 15 goals and 39 points.
This marks the second straight year that she has received first
team all-conference recognition.
Saia anchored the CUA defense this season, helping the Cardinals
hold teams to 1.21 goals per game and post nine shutouts. CUA
ranked second in the Landmark Conference in goals allowed, goals
against average and shutouts. Saia also handed out an assist
in CUA’s tournament semifinal victory.
This is Saia’s first career all-conference nod. She
finishes her time in the red and black having appeared in 74
matches and totaling four assists.
Playing behind Saia and the CUA defense was Cassidy, who also
earns her first career all-conference selection. Cassidy
battled through a tough injury midway through this season to finish
second in the Landmark in goals against average (0.99), save
percentage (.761) and shutouts (6). She registered a
season-high seven saves in a win over FDU-Florham and six stops in
a regular season win at Susquehanna.
Cassidy wrapped up her career with 96 saves in 2,897 minutes of
action, 18 wins and a .769 save percentage.
Orgill tied for the conference lead in goals this season, finding
the back of the net 10 times. She also ranked second in shots
(67), third in points (21), and third in game-winning goals
(3). Orgill scored a season-best two goals in a 6-0 victory
over Hood and she netted goals in seven of the Cardinals’
final ten matches.
This is the second time Orgill has been named to the all-conference
teams after garnering second team accolades in 2009. Orgill
will enter her senior season with 28 career goals and 57
points.
CUA had a bounce back season in 2011, winning 12 matches overall,
including a program record five Landmark matches. The
Cardinals defeated Susquehanna in the semifinals of the conference
tournament and advanced to their third conference championship in
the last four seasons.
