Burke's scoring, Cardinals defense lead to 2-0 win in Pa.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – CUA took only eight shots in its match at Susquehanna on Saturday, but that was more than enough in a 2-0 win for the Cardinals, which moves them to 2-0 in the Landmark Conference.  Caroline Burke scored both goals for CUA, and Christina Cassidy sent back six shots to register the shutout.

Burke wasted little time in giving CUA a 1-0 lead, taking a pass from Kate Masson at the 7:41 mark for an early goal.

For the next 30 minutes neither team was able to get off a single shot, but at the 38:09 mark Susquehanna was whistled for a foul and Burke was awarded a penalty kick.

The CUA senior calmly stepped up and booted the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 Cardinals lead.

1:07 into the second half Courtney Orgill looked to increase CUA's lead, but her shot went wide.  Six minutes later another Orgill shot sailed wide, keeping the score at 2-0.

Susquehanna's first shot did not come until the 63:17 mark and Cassidy stepped up to make the save.  The Crusaders took three more shots in the next three minutes and Cassidy sent back each attempt.

The Cardinals final two shots came in the 69th minute, one by Lauren Cadott and another from Tricia Colucci, but the first was blocked and the second went wide.

A shot by Susquehanna's Angela Amato with 81:05 was the Crusaders last chance, but again Cassidy made the save.

CUA was credited with eight shots in the match, while Susquehanna was credited with six.  The Cardinals took all five corner kicks and made all six saves on the afternoon.

CUA heads to Eastern Mennonite for its next match, which will take place on Thursday, October 6.  Start time is slated for 7 p.m.
