CUA earns second straight win by downing Mustangs 7-2

WASHINGTON – CUA reeled off its second straight win on
Wednesday afternoon by downing Stevenson 7-2 at home. The
Cardinals received singles wins from Ritamarie Holden, Isabel
Tanco, Amanda Pellegrino, Rosemary Montani and Katie Johnson, while
Christine Harvey and Johnson along with Pellegrino and Montani
earned doubles wins.
Holden got things going for CUA with an 8-7, 6-1 victory over
Maura Bernstein at first singles and Tanco followed with a 6-1, 6-4
win over Wendy Ogbolu at the second flight.
Gretchen Coombs was upended at the third flight but Pellegrino
came back to earn a 6-3, 6-1 win for the Cardinals at fourth
singles.
Montani defeated Rachael Sandora 6-0, 6-2 at the fifth flight and
Katie Johnson was awarded a win by default at sixth singles.
In doubles play Stevenson picked up an 8-2 win at the first flight
with Maura Bernstein and Stephanie Eyler downing Holden and
Tanco.
Harvey and Johnson then recorded an 8-3 victory at the second
flight and Pellegrino and Montani were awarded a win by default at
third doubles to close out CUA’s 11th victory of the
season.
On Saturday CUA hosts Landmark Conference foe Drew at the CUA
Tennis Courts. The match will get underway beginning at 1
p.m.
