CUA drops another close match, falls 5-4 to Northwestern
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – CUA dropped another close match on its
spring break trip, falling to Northwestern College 5-4 on Thursday
afternoon. Elaina Sceusa and Emma Needham earned singles
victories for the Cardinals, while Isabel Tanco and Sceusa, as well
as Caitlin Porter and Rosemary Montani were victorious in
doubles.
Northwestern won the first three singles flights, with Megan
Johnson defeating Margie Selinger 6-2, 7-6, Kelly Johnson upending
Ritamarie Holden 7-6, 6-3 and Amber Gallaway coming away with a
6-3, 7-5 win over Andie Ingram.
Sceusa got the Cardinals on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Amy
Knight at the fourth flight, while Needham picked up a 6-1, 6-1
victory against Rachel Richeter at the sixth flight.
Tanco fell to Rachel Smith 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 at the fifth singles
flight.
Megan Johnson and Kelly Johnson earned an 8-2 win at the first
doubles flight over CUA's Selinger and Holden, but Tanco and Sceusa
picked up an 8-6 win over Knight and Smith at the second flight,
and Porter and Montani closed things out with an 8-1 defeat of
Gallaway and Aimee Clites.
On Friday, the Cardinals will take on Milligan in their final
spring break match. Start time is set for 11:30 a.m.
