Cardinals drop spring season opener at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – CUA fell to Salisbury by an 8-1 score on Friday in the Cardinals spring season opener.  Elaina Sceusa picked up CUA's lone win on the afternoon, downing Allison Lutz 6-3, 7-5 at the fifth singles flight.

At first singles, Margie Selinger, who returns to the CUA lineup for the spring semester, fell to Jillian Poppe 6-0, 6-2.  Ritamarie Holden dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Elaina Iosue at the second flight and Andie Ingram was upended 6-2, 6-0 at third singles by Victoria Handlin.

Caitlin Porter was defeated by Roxanne Alban 6-0, 6-1 at the fourth flight, while Isabel Tanco fell to Katie Youlios 6-1, 6-2 at sixth singles.

In doubles action, Holden and Selinger fell to Poppe and Alban at the first flight 8-0, while Tanco and Ingram dropped an 8-2 decision to Iosue and Lutz at second doubles.

Handlin and Youlios won the third doubles match in a tightly contested affair 8-6, over CUA's Emma Needham and Porter.

CUA is now off until its annual spring break trip when the Cardinals head to South Carolina where it will play six matches.  CUA will take on Mount Union in the first match on March 4 beginning at noon.
