Cardinals drop another tight one, fall 5-4 at Scranton
SCRANTON, Pa. - For the second straight match, CUA dropped a one-point heartbreaker, falling to Scranton 5-4 on Thursday afternoon. Margie Selinger and Isabel Tanco earned singles wins for the Cardinals, while Elaina Sceusa and Selinger, along with Ritamarie Holden and Caitlin Porter picked up doubles points.
Selinger earned a 6-1, 7-6 win over Stephanie Boccuzzi at the first singles flight, while Scranton's Devon Cohen downed Holden 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the second flight.
At third singles, the Royals' Elisha Connell earned a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Sceusa, while Caitlin Ehly downed Andie Ingram 7-6, 6-1 at the fourth flight.
Porter fell to Megan Azzalina 7-6, 6-3 at fifth singles, while Tanco picked up a hard-fought 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 win over Nicole Mahaffey at sixth singles.
In doubles, Boccuzzi and Cohen earned an 8-0 sweep of Ingram and Tanco at the first flight, but CUA won the next two matches.
Sceusa and Selinger defeated Connell and Ehly 8-6 at the second flight, and Holden and Porter defeated Azzalina and Mahaffey 8-1 at the third flight.
On Wednesday, April 11, CUA welcomes Goucher to town for a 3 p.m. match.
