Unbeaten Westminster sneaks past CUA 5-4
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – CUA gave an unbeaten Westminster team
(17-0) all it could handle on Tuesday, before ultimately falling
5-4. Caitlin Porter, Isabel Tanco and Amanda Pellegrino
picked up singles wins for the Cardinals (3-6), while Andie Ingram
and Tanco combined to earn a doubles victory.
At first singles, Margie Selinger fell to Westminster’s
Caitlin Hosler 7-6, 7-3 in a very competitive match. Alex
Bailey then upended CUA’s Ritamarie Holden 6-1, 6-1 at the
second flight.
Porter picked up a CUA point at third singles with a 6-1, 6-3
victory over Jane Larson, while Westminester’s Heather Santa
downed Elaina Sceusa 7-5, 6-4 at fourth singles.
Tanco earned her win at the fifth flight, by downing Dana Griesmer
6-3, 7-5, and at the sixth flight, Pellegrino picked up a 6-0, 6-2
win over Beth Ekimoff.
Ingram and Tanco earned another point for CUA with a 9-7 victory
over Larson and Griesmer at the second doubles flight.
In first doubles action, Hosler and Bailey downed CUA’s
Selinger and Sceusa 8-1, while Santa and Lauren Fling earned an 8-1
win at the third flight over Porter and Emma Needham.
CUA returns to the court on Wednesday, when the Cardinals face
Chestnut Hill at 6:30 p.m.
