CUA opens spring season on Friday at home vs. Eagles
WASHINGTON – Following an unbeaten fall season, the CUA women's tennis team will begin its spring segment on Friday afternoon when the Cardinals play host to Bridgewater College. CUA went 5-0 during the fall season, picking up wins over York, Trinity, St. Mary's, Stevenson, and Hood.
Individually, Emma Needham posted a perfect 4-0 record during the fall season in singles play, while Caitlin Porter earned a 3-0 record.
Overall, the Cards went 27-3 in singles matches, including 5-0 at the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th flights.
In doubles action, Elaina Sceusa and Marge Selinger posted a 3-0 record at the first flight, while Needham and Maria Notarianni went 2-0 at the 2nd flight.
CUA, which went 3-3 in Landmark Conference play a season ago and just missed out on the postseason, will get conference action going on March 23 when the Cardinals travel to Pennsylvania to face Moravian.
Bridgewater went 12-5 a season ago, including 9-1 within the ODAC. The Eagles played in three tournaments during the fall, last competing on October 6.
Friday's match gets underway beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Cardinals then head to Hilton Head, S.C. for their annual spring break trip. Their first match will take place at 6:30 on March 3 vs. Alvernia.
