CUA downs Alvernia 7-2 in spring break opener

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Behind five singles wins and two doubles wins, the Cardinals got their spring break trip off to a successful start with a 7-2 win over Alvernia on Sunday evening. Ritamarie Holden, Caitlin Porter, Emma Needham, Isabel Tanco and Liz Harvey earned singles wins, while Holden and Porter, along with Needham and Tanco picked up doubles wins.

CUA dropped the 1st singles match, when Marge Selinger fell to Julie Seidel 6-3, 6-2.

Holden earned a 6-1, 6-3 win against Alyssa Boyd at 2nd singles, and Porter picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jennifer Innamorato at the 3rd flight.

At 4th singles, Needham downed Rachele Smith 6-1, 1-6, 10-6, and Tanco then defeated Lillian Hussar 6-3, 6-2 at the 5th flight.

Harvey closed singles play out with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Maygan Henzie at 6th singles.

In doubles competition, Holden and Porter were victorious at the 2nd flight, downing Innamorato and Smith 8-3, while Needham and Tanco picked up an 8-1 win against Henzie and Morgan at the 2nd flight.

Selinger and Harvey were upended 8-5 at the 1st flight by Seidel and Boyd.

On Monday, CUA faces Adrian at 8 a.m.
