Cardinals drop spring opener to Bridgewater in tight match
WASHINGTON – CUA dropped a tough 5-4 decision to Bridgewater College on Friday afternoon in the Cards' spring opener. Caitlin Porter and Isabel Tanco picked up singles wins for the Cardinals, while Porter and Elizabeth Harvey, as well as Emma Needham and Ritamarie Holden, earned doubles wins.
In singles action, BC's Katie Gordon picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over CUA's Marge Selinger at the first flight, while at the second flight, Marla O'Bryan downed Holden 6-1, 6-0.
At third singles, Elaina Sceusa fell to Brittany Wilson, 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.
Porter earned CUA's first point of the day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Olivia Stone at fourth singles, while Tanco downed Miranda Donovan 6-4, 6-0 at the sixth flight.
BC's Jessie Mitchell downed Needham 6-2, 7-6 at fifth singles.
In doubles action, Porter and Harvey defeated Wilson and Stone 8-5 at the second flight and Needham and Holden picked up an 8-5 win at the third flight.
Sceusa and Selinger fell to Gordon and O'Bryan 8-3 at first doubles.
CUA now heads out on its annual spring break trip, where the Cardinals will begin play on March 3 vs. Alvernia. Start time is set for 6:30 p.m.
