Unbeaten conference foes meet on Wednesday afternoon
WASHINGTON – The inside track for the top seed in the
upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament will be up for grabs on
Wednesday, when CUA visits Goucher in a battle of teams with
identical 3-0 conference records. The Cardinals have won four
matches in a row, including a 9-0 sweep of Susquehanna on
CUA is having a terrific season, posting an overall mark of 11-2. The Cardinals have earned wins over conference foes Moravian, Scranton and Susquehanna and have three more conference matches remaining.
Three Cardinals, Marge Selinger, Ritamarie Holden and Elaina Sceusa have been named Landmark Conference Player of the Week thus far, with Selinger earning the honor on Monday.
In singles action, Caitlin Porter is a perfect 11-0, with four of those wins coming at the 4th flight. Emma Needham is 11-1, with Holden (7), Liz Harvey (6), Selinger (6) and Isabel Tanco (6) next in line in number of wins.
Overall, the Cardinals are 61-17 in singles play, good for a win percentage of .782.
CUA’s top doubles team has been Holden and Porter, who have teamed up to earn an 8-1 record, with seven of those victories coming at the 2nd flight.
Sceusa and Tanco are 3-0 playing together, while Sceusa and Selinger have also earned three wins, as have Harvey and Selinger. CUA is 30-9 in doubles play (.769).
Goucher enters Wednesday’s match with an overall record of 9-3, which includes conference victories over Moravian, Juniata and Drew.
Four Gophers have earned double-digit wins in singles play, led by Addie Maxwell with 12 and Ariel Lin with 11. Meaghan Lee and Alex Walsh have added 10 wins each. Goucher’s singles record is 60-23 (.723).
In doubles, Lee and Lin have teamed up to post a 10-2 record, while Maxwell and Walsh are 8-2. Overall, the Gophers are 32-16 in doubles competition (.667).
Wednesday’s match begins at 3 p.m. in Towson, Md.
This weekend, CUA will play host to Drew on Saturday, while Goucher returns to conference action on April 20 vs. Susquehanna.
