2001 Season Preview

After leading the Cardinals to their first winning season in three years and returning all of her top players, Coach Dana Dowd is looking for continued success in 2000-01. Her goal is to improve upon the team's 8-4 record and fourth-place finish in the CAC championships.

Sophomore Mo Hegedus returns as Catholic's top player. Playing No. 1 singles last year, Hegedus posted a record of 10-2 and was named CAC Rookie of the Year. Junior Suzanne Fish, who went 7-3 in 1999-2000 while playing No. 2 and 3 singles, joins her.

Juniors Elizabeth Heichel, Heather McDonald and Amy Hemler, as well as sophomore Bridget Guetle round out the Cardinals' top returnees. Dowd hopes that several promising freshmen are able to push for starting positions.

Dowd focuses on all aspects of the competitive game. These include mental strength, ball control, power, speed and endurance, as well as the important aspects of a varsity collegiate sport - leadership, organization, sacrifice, commitment and team unity.

The women's tennis program has huge growth potential in the next few years with young, talented, dedicated players whose solid performance last season will lead to greater success in the future.
