The 2001-2002 women's tennis team continued the trend of winning seasons that started three years ago with a record of 14-3 and a third place finish in the Capital Athletic Conference Championships.
While the 2002 spring brought to a close the careers of seniors Sue Fish, Amy Hemler, Heather McDonald, and Molly Merrigan, the team spirit and commitment they provided to this team will be remembered and carried on by the remaining members.
The 2002-2003 season brings a new volunteer assistant coach with Cate (Miller) DeMartino as well as a very strong starting line up with returning players No.1 senior Mo Hegedus, No.2 junior Michelle Braley (fall only), No.3 sophomore Kathleen Hegedus, No.4 junior Kate Dempsey, No.5 sophomore Michelle Sazonov, and No. 6 sophomore Emily Bresnahan-McRae and several players competing for the No.6 position in the spring when the No.2 spot will open due to a player going abroad. Returning players Meredith Niles and Carrie O'Malley continue to show great improvements in their games and will add pressure to the starting lineup.
Incoming freshmen Erika Bencker, Stephanie Kennedy, and Omo Rotimi have shown excellent team attitude, work ethic and physical skills this fall and will create the depth this team will depend on in the coming years. This team is a group of competitive and skilled tennis players who are motivated to win.
