CUA Hosts Capital Fall Tennis Classic
WASHINGTON - CUA women's tennis hosted the Capital Fall Tennis Classic on Saturday at the DuFour Center. The Cards hosted Goucher College, Hood College and the US Naval Academy Club team for the event. The team fared quite well with one singles player winning her flight and two flight victories in doubles.
In flight one Corinne Alcorn (Chatham, N.J.) advanced the finals after beating Mary Wootan of the Naval Academy 6-0, 6-3 and Chloe Scott-Giry from Goucher 6-7, 6-3 (10-5). In the finals Alcorn dropped the match to Carly Heinz from Goucher 6-2, 6-4.
Leia DiCocco (Media, Pa.) was the only flight winner for the Cards taking the second group with three wins. Caitlin Dunn (Hanover, Pa.) also advanced to the finals in the second flight setting up a CUA showdown. DiCocco came out on top 6-2, 6-4.
Mary Wargo (Manchester, N.H.) made a run to the final match in flight three but eventually lost to Carissa Guthrie of the Naval Academy 6-4, 6-2.
In flights four and five Grace Fitzpatrick (Seekonk, Mass.) and Seda Ambartsumian (Potomac, Md.) both made it to the semifinals.
In doubles play, the pair of DiCocco and Rachel Tenuta (Fayetteville, N.C.) won the first flight with a big 8-2 victory over Goucher. CUA's Dunn and Wargo paired up for a win in flight two over Goucher 8-6.
This closed out the fall season for the Cardinals who will start up again March 4 at Shenandoah.
