Cardinals Advance to Semifinals with 8-1 Win
Tenuta and DiCocco win one, two and number on doubles
WASHINGTON- The Catholic University women's tennis squad advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals after an 8-1 victory over the St. Mary's Seahawks Tuesday afternoon. The third-seeded Cardinals are now 12-6 on the season and will face the #2 Salisbury Sea Gulls on Friday.
The Cards won all but one singles match including two 6-0, 6-1 victories from number five Mary Wargo (Manchester, N.H.) and number six Caitlin Dunn (Hanover, Pa.). Rachel Tenuta (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Leia DiCocco (Media, Pa.) won both their matches at one and two singles, respectively, while Catherine Guentert defeated Jessica Peterson 6-4, 7-5 in a nail-biter at number four.
In doubles play, the Cards had no problems handily defeating the Seahawks in all three matches, 8-2.
CUA will visit the second-seeded Salisbury Sea Gulls on Friday afternoon in the CAC semifinals.
