Women's Tennis Falls in Landmark Opener
Top spots win but Cards can't get one more
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's tennis team continued to struggle despite solid play Saturday as the team lost to Moravian College (3-4, 1-0 Landmark) by a tight 5-4 score. This marked the first conference match for both squads as CUA falls to 0-1 in the Landmark play and 1-7 overall.
The top positions on the team did their part Saturday as one and two singles and doubles all came out with victories. In singles play, Rachel Tenuta (Fayetteville, N.C./Fayetteville) defeated Lindsey Hopper 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to get things started for the Cards. At number two singles, Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) also came out on top with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. In doubles play the team of Tenuta and McGlynn won at number one 8-2. At number two Corinne Alcorn (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Reenie Costello (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) managed the 8-4 victory as CUA fell just short of the match losing 5-4.
The Cardinals will have the upcoming holiday weekend off before traveling to Scranton for another Landmark match on Monday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
