Cards Pick Up First Conference Victory
CUA defeats Drew 7-2
MADISON, N.J. - The Catholic University women's tennis squad got its first win of 2008 with a 7-2 win over the Drew University Rangers (3-8) Saturday afternoon. The Cards have played a challenging schedule so far this spring and improve to 2-7 overall as well as 1-2 in Landmark conference play.
The Cards won seven of nine matches dropping just number two and number six singles. Senior Rachel Tenuta (Fayetteville, N.C./Fayetteville) had a big day winning at number one singles 6-2, 6-0. Corinne Alcorn (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), Caitlin Dunn (Hanover, Pa./Delone) and Mary Wargo (Manchester, N.H./Trinity) won the three (1-6, 6-4, 6-3), four (6-1, 6-1) and five (6-2, 6-0) spots.
In the doubles matches, Tenuta and Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) won 8-2 at number one. They were matched by Alcorn and Dunn who took number two 8-5 as well as Wargo and Julia Cotrone (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) as the pair won the three position 8-4.
The Cardinals will look to make it two in a row on Thursday as they travel to Gettysburg at 3:30 p.m.
