Women's Tennis Finish Season Strong.
WASHINGTON- The CUA women's tennis team finished the 2009 regular season with a solid performance against conference rival Susquehanna University to earn their first Landmark Conference win. The matched marked senior day for several of the players and the 6-3 win moved the squad to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in Landmark play.
Catholic University managed to split the singles match three apiece due to solid efforts by several different Cards including Caitlin Dunn (Hanover, Pa ) who picked up her fifth win of the season after defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-3. New Hampshire native Mary Wargo(Manchester, NH) also picked up a win, 6-0. 6-0. Sr. Rachel Tenuta (Fayetteville, N.C.) also battled hard on what would be her final match as a Cardinal, but would ultimately fall in the tie breaker 7-6, 5-7, 10-5. The North Carolina native has been a part of 29 wins throughout her remarkable career and has finished this season with five wins in singles competition.
Tenuta and Dunn came out on top in the No. 1 doubles match, wining by a count of 8-5. This win marked the seventh on the season for the duo and moves them to second place in the Landmark conference in doubles. Sarah Luffy (Sewickley, Pa.) and Mary Wargo also claimed their third win of the season as doubles partners after winning 8-4.
This matched marked the last game for the Red and Black in 2009 that will look to build of this year entering the 2009-2010 season with many returning players.
