Cards Fall to Spartans in Non-Conference Action
WASHINGTON-- The Catholic University of America Women's Tennis team came up just short against visiting York College (PA) Sunday afternoon by a count of 5-4. The Spartans swept through the doubles matches, which proved to be a key factor in the team’s triumph.
However, after dropping all three doubles matches, the Cards showed great resiliency in battling back. York’s Katelyn Acker (Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) took the first singles match to expand the Spartan lead to 4-0 on the day, but CUA would mount a furious comeback when Ritamarie Holden (Huntington, MD), Gretchen Coombs (Yardley, PA), and Allison Tontz took the second, third, and fourth singles matches respectively to close the gap to 4-3. Unfortunately, the two squads then split the fifth and sixth singles matches to wrap up the match and send the Spartans home with the narrow 5-4 victory.
The Lady Cardinals will look to bounce back as they will travel to non-conference cross-town rival Trinity College next week. The match is set for Wednesday, April 7th at 3:30 p.m
