CUA remains unbeaten with win over local rival UDC
WASHINGTON – The CUA women’s tennis team continued
its torrid start to the 2010 fall season as the Cardinals downed
Division II University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday
afternoon 7-2. Elaina Sceusa was down 2-3 in her first set
and 3-1 in her third, but she came back to post a 6-3, 1-7, 7-5 win
at second singles.
UDC’s Jessica Nunez was a tough-out on Wednesday as she won
at first singles 6-0, 6-0 and at first doubles with teammate Maria
Vitkina 8-0. Aside from those two matches, the Cardinals
controlled the action, as Isabel Tanco defeated Tadai Abilla 6-3 in
the first set at third singles before Abilla retired.
In fourth singles action, Anissa Boyko earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over
Phantasia Nolan, while Kasia Zak swept Aida Gueye 6-0, 6-0 at the
fifth flight. Christine Harvey then finished off singles play
in strong fashion with a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles.
The Cardinals won two of the three doubles matches by identical
8-0 scores as Sceusa and Tanco earned a win at the second flight
and Amanda Pellegrino and Julia O’Connor duplicated that
success at third singles.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, September 24 when they
travel to Mary Washington to compete at the 2010 ITA Regional
Championship. Action gets underway beginning at 8:00 AM.
