Three Cardinals win in singles, but CUA falls to ESU
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Ritamarie Holden, Caitlin Porter and
Elizabeth Harvey each won singles matches but it wasn’t
enough for CUA and the Cardinals dropped their spring break opener
6-3 vs. Division II East Stroudsburg on Sunday. Holden,
Porter and Harvey notched wins at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles,
respectively.
At first singles Marjorie Selinger fell to Amanda Kaufman 6-1,
6-1, while at second singles Andie Ingram dropped a 6-0, 6-0
decision to Katie D’Ambrosia. Jamie Ferrigno topped
CUA’s Elaina Sceusa 6-1, 6-0 at third singles to give the
Warriors a 3-0 lead.
The Cardinals came back to tie the match at three with three
straight wins at the next singles flights. Holden got things
started with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Rabecca Lausch at fourth singles
and Porter followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Annie Vega.
Harvey then beat Amber Adams 6-0, 6-0 to knot the score at
three.
In doubles action D’Ambrosia and Ferrigno downed Selinger
and Sceusa 8-4 in the first flight and Ingram and Harvey were
beaten 8-6 at the second flight.
In third doubles play Vega and Jessica Wilson defeated Gretchen
Coombs and Rosemary Montani 8-3.
CUA returns to action on Monday afternoon when the Cardinals take
on Marian (Ind.) in South Beach, S.C. Start time is slated
for 12:30 p.m.
