Salisbury hands Cardinals first loss of the season
SALISBURY, Md. – CUA had its hands full on Sunday
afternoon with Salisbury and the Cardinals were ultimately dealt
their first loss of the season falling 9-0 to the Seagulls.
Salisbury won each of the singles matches in straight sets and
completed the sweep with a trio of wins in doubles play.
At first singles Marjorie Selinger was upended by Jillian Poppe
6-0, 6-3, while Andie Ingram fell to Elaina Iosue 6-1, 6-1 at
second singles.
Angela Tenaglia scored a 6-1, 6-0 win over CUA’s Elaina
Sceusa at third singles and Ritamarie Holden fell at the fourth
flight, 6-1, 6-1.
Caitlin Porter and Elizabeth Harvey were beaten at fifth and sixth
singles, respectively.
In doubles play, Sceusa and Selinger fell at the first flight 8-2
against Poppe and Tenaglia, while Ingram and Elizabeth Harvey lost
at second doubles 8-2. Holden and Porter were then upended
8-3 at third doubles.
CUA has the week off before heading to South Carolina for spring
break. The Cardinals will play five matches during their
trip, beginning on March 6 when they take on East Stroudsburg in
Bluffton, S.C. Start time is slated for 2:30 p.m.
