Spring season begins on Sunday for CUA women's tennis
WASHINGTON – Five months after playing its last match, the CUA women's tennis team begins its 2011 spring season on Sunday, February 27 when the Cardinals travel to take on Salisbury. CUA had a terrific fall season, posting an 8-0 record including an 8-1 defeat of St. Mary's on September 25 in the finale.
Sunday's match will help CUA get in gear for its spring break trip to South Carolina, which begins on March 6. The Cardinals will play five matches while on the trip, beginning with East Stroudsburg.
The Cardinals ripped off eight straight wins during their fall season, including all five matches at home. Individually, CUA posted a 41-7 mark in singles matches and a 21-3 record in doubles matches.
Christine Harvey, Elizabeth Harvey, Andie Ingram, Katie Johnson, Rosemary Montani, Amanda Pellegrino, Isabel Tanco and Kasia Zak each went undefeated during the fall in singles play and Elizabeth Harvey and Ingram posted a perfect 4-0 mark in doubles.
Salisbury will be playing its first dual match of the spring on Sunday. The Seagulls went 13-3 a season ago, falling to Mary Washington in the finals of the CAC Tournament.
Sunday's match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Maryland.
