Sophomore won the triple jump at Lebanon Valley Invite

1/28/2008

WASHINGTON - Catholic University women's track and field athlete Kelly Szal (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was named the Landmark Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the period ending January 27.  The jumper and hurdler had an outstanding weekend for the Cards in just their second meet of the indoor track and field season.

Szal won the triple jump at the Lebanon Valley Invitational jumping 9.70 meters and beating out nine other competitors.  She was also fifth out of 19 athletes in the long jump with a leap of 4.56 meters to her credit.  On the track she advanced to the finals in the 55 meter hurdles running a 9.63 which was good enough for sixth overall.

The Landmark Conference awards both track and field athlete of the week honors through the indoor and outdoor seasons.  This is the first award for a Cardinal male or female athlete.

CUA will compete next weekend at the Ursinus Invitational in Collegeville, Pa.
